Seychelles stand at Indonesian trade show gives free exposure to African destinations

Seychelles’ Pan African spirit once again showed when the Special Envoy of the Seychelles to ASEAN Mr. Nico Barito invited fellow African countries to use the Seychelles’ stand to display posters and brochures and provide information about trade and investment opportunities.

The International Investment and Trade Expo of Local Governments is hosted by APKASI ‘Association of Kabupatenof Indonesia’ a prominent local government organization of Indonesia with 416 members. The 1st Expo of Local Governments held at Jakarta International Expo was officially opened by Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Economy Hatta Rajasa on behalf of the President of Indonesia. The 3 days expo attracted over than 10,000 visitors both from local and international businesses.

Seychelles invited representatives from the African missions in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur to show case Africa during the business forum which was attended by the key regional economic figures. Mr. Barito of Seychelles who took lead in the session, explained about the potential of Seychelles and its tourism and how Seychelles’ strategic position can be a hub for ASEAN businesses to link with its African compatriots. During the session, Mr. Barito was accompanied by Ambassadors and representatives from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Tunisia, Nigeria, Sudan, Burkina Faso and Guinea.

Other participants who took active part in promoting Seychelles were Mr. Dougie Douglas, the Country Manager of Etihad / Air Seychelles, Mr. Hermawan Kertajaya, Asian Marketing Guru & founder of Markplus and Mr.Pui Sudarto, founder of Pulau Intan an Indonesian main construction company and property and resort developer.

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St. Ange, is currently one of Africa’s representatives on the UNWTO Executive Council, after he was elected at the UNWTO General Assembly last year in Zimbabwe. Notably does another Seychellois, former CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board Elsia Grandcourt, now hold the position as Director for Africa at the UNWTO headoffice in Madrid, giving the Seychelles a unique position, and responsibility, to help promote the entire continent.
