Fastjet commences staff review

Staff of Fastjet who will, as a result of organizational and fleet changes, become redundant, have been assured that should the business climate change to the better they will be the first to be offered new contracts.
A letter seen from Fastjet’s management in Tanzania also assures staff that their statutory redundancy pay, accumulated leave and any bonuses applicable will all be paid to those who will leave the company and that in the case of crew the principle of last in first out will be applied.
The airline will also provide the affected staff with references to seek and secure employment elsewhere, did the letter say.
Meetings with staff have began on the 15th of September, i.e. on Thursday this week and are expected to be concluded early in the new week.
Reportedly affected are staff from several departments, Administration, Commercial, Ground Operations, Cabin Crew and Flight Crew (cockpit).
It is now widely anticipated that the new aircraft, which will replace the Airbus A319 fleet, is going to be of the Embraer E190 type in an all economy cabin layout.
Other changes already affected are booking fees of 11.000 Tanzania Shillings for passengers NOT using the online system and preferring a sales office while, even more important, will all flights connecting through Dar es Salaam now be bookable on ONE ticket unlike in the past when every sector had to be ticketed separately and passengers had to check in afresh.
This move has been widely hailed as a major step forward in retaining business and increasing brand loyalty.
