Clean Sweep for Ol Pejeta at the Ecotourism Ecowarrior Awards 2017
Not one, not two, but THREE awards for Ol Pejeta at this year’s Ecotourism Ecowarrior Awards! Held at the Radisson Blu Hotel on 27th September 2017, Ol Pejeta staff were delighted to receive the Overall Award, as well as the awards for ‘Protecting Life on Land’ and ‘Decent work and Economic Growth’.
The awards were based on how businesses and organisations incorporate the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals in meeting the needs of local people and nature. Ol Pejeta has won the Private Conservancy of the Year award in 2012, 2015 and 2016.
Are you an avid photographer? This one is for you!
In 2018, Ian Aitken Photography will be hosting a series of tours on Ol Pejeta Conservancy. All these photography tours are exclusive to Ol Pejeta, and a world away from the usual tourist game park scramble. With us, you’re free to go at your own pace. Professional photographer Ian Aitken will be on hand on all our daily game drives and excursions, helping you to get the perfect shot.
Darwin Initiative Grant kicks off new chapter for Mutara Conservancy
In 2015, the Kenyan Government made headlines when it set aside 20,000 acres of agricultural land bordering Ol Pejeta for integrated wildlife, livestock and tourism operations. As well as providing an opportunity to safeguard more wildlife movement corridors, and secure habitat for black rhinos, Mutara Conservancy is a chance for more local communities to benefit from wildlife conservation and sustainable natural resource management.
That is why Ol Pejeta have teamed up with Fauna & Flora International (FFI), The Monarch Group and the Laikipia Wildlife Forum (LWF) to apply to the Darwin Initiative. The Darwin Initiative is a UK government grants scheme that helps to protect biodiversity and the natural environment through locally based projects worldwide. A grant was awarded to us this month – October 2017.
