The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, upon completing the audit of Uganda Airlines ahead of starting operations, has yesterday handed the coveted operating licence, in short called AOC, to the airline.
This now gives Uganda’s new national airline nearly 5 weeks to complete final preparations, such as attaining a two letter code from IATA and launching their entry into the Global Distribution Systems, besides other elements which required an actual AOC in place before actions could be completed.
The Minister for Works and Transport last week mentioned that flights would now commence on the 31st of August and while final confirmation is expected is the countdown now on in earnest.
The inaugural flight is due to leave Entebbe to Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, while on the following day two additional destinations will be launched, Mogadishu and Dar es Salaam.
The airline has already announced that additional destinations, before the end of the year, will be Juba, Bujumbura, Kilimanjaro and Mombasa.
Presently using two CRJ900 jets are two additional such aircraft expected later in the year and www.ATCNews.org will as usual report updates as and when available.
