What is the Tropic Air 10to4 Mountain Bike Challenge?
This annual event provides a unique opportunity for cyclists of all ages and abilities to take on the challenge of the 2nd highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kenya. Raising money for Mount Kenya Trust, bike riders start at an altitude of 10,000ft and drop through alpine moorlands, forests, and game-filled plains to end on a private wildlife conservancy at 4,000ft. For those with other interests, the event also offers Horse Riding @ the 10to4, where participants can ride alongside wildlife on the beautiful plains of Borana Conservancy.

The Mini 10to4, supported by Braeburn School, is the perfect opportunity for budding cyclists (under the age of 13 years old) to get involved too. The event offers different length routes for selected age groups, including an obstacle course for the 2-4yr olds.

For those children who have ‘outgrown’ the Mini 10to4, the 39km Slide Route, taking place on Saturday 15th February, is the race for them. This mainly downhill route is a wonderful challenge for those aged 10+ and prizes will be awarded to two categories: under 18 riders and over 18.

2020 Focus

  • A fun-filled weekend for all the family – the 10to4 is not just an opportunity for competitive cyclists to get involved but it’s also a wonderful family occasion. Take this unique opportunity to camp at Borana Race Village, enjoy the Braeburn Kids tent, and enjoy the natural environment with friends and family
  • Bike drop – once again we’ll be offering a service to get you and your bike up to the Kisima start line. For those new to the 10to4, the distance between Borana Race Village (campsite) and the Start Line for Day 2 is 56Kms (approx. 1hr 20mins drive) so either get organised early with a lift share or sign up for Bike Drop before all spots fill up
  • eBikes – this year we are planning to introduce a new eBike class to the event. Details are being finalised but if you’re a keen eBiker drop us an email for more info
  • Explore the local area – in addition to participating in your chosen events, why not put aside time to explore the other attractions in the area, including the Ngare Ndare Forest Blue Pools
  • Horse Ride
  • Help Save the Mountain! Following the severe fires on Mount Kenya earlier this year, we hope to raise even more valuable funds this year to help with mountain conservation. Be a part of protecting the mountain by fundraising however you can

We are very excited to have TROPIC AIR, who love the mountain as much as we do, on board as our title sponsor for the third year!

From their base at Nanyuki Airfield in the heart of Kenya, Tropic Air offers private flights, helicopter services, film and photography, utility support, wildlife conservation and search and rescue. With a strong East African footprint and 25 years of experience in the industry, they keep the fun in flying. Tropic Air is professional, friendly and personal with a team of just 10 pilots, founded and managed by Kenya-born Jamie Roberts.
Not only do they look out for your safety from the sky during race day, but their funding is crucial to making this event happen.

PROTECT OUR MOUNTAIN
The 10to4 raises vital funds for the Mount Kenya Trust, an NGO working endlessly to protect the people, forest, wildlife and water of Mount Kenya. This race fundraiser pays ranger salaries, builds fences, plants trees, supports communities and fights fires.

Following the 2019 10to4 event Mount Kenya was ravaged by the most horrific fires and much of the money raised through the event went towards managing and controlling those fires. So even the smallest amount raised is incredibly value and spent wisely.

For help and ideas on how to get the most out of your fundraising please visit the Fundraising page on the 10to4 website.

Thank you.
