152 young Ugandans get scholarships from the Madhvani Foundation

MULJIBHAI MADHVANI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS TOP 150

(Posted 29th August 2014)

A selection process spanning over 3 months and dealing with thousands of applications by Ugandan students earlier in the week concluded as the work of the scholarship selection committee of the Madhvani Foundation came to a close this year. The Trustees then announced that 152 scholarship awards for the year 2014/15 have been made, worth some 650 million Uganda Shillings, the highest such scholarship fund award any company in Uganda is making, and is making it year after year.

In a statement issued by the Foundation did Mr. Anthony Butele the Chairman Scholarship Committee say the foundation has always looked to bring hope to the economically challenged but academically talented students of Uganda. He advised the successful candidates to come with proof of identification at the Madhvani Foundation Offices, Industrial Area to collect their Scholarship Award letters after 10th September 2014 between 09.00 hrs and 16.00 hrs.

Commenting on this year’s scholarship analysis, Mr. Iyengar, the Corporate Secretary for the Madhvani Group noted that ‘The Eastern region has for the second year running dominated the scholarship awards with the male applicants beating their female counterparts with 68% of the total scholarships. Makerere University on the other hand will absorb the highest number of beneficiaries while Engineering and Medicine topped the courses’. Mr. Iyengar went on to tell all academically bright but economically challenged students from across the country to take advantage of this opportunity that is provided annually by the Madhvani Foundation.

The Madhvani Foundation scholarship programme is aimed at benefiting Ugandans pursuing either undergraduate or graduate studies at University level in Uganda and has been in operation since the 2003/04 academic year. The Foundation is a two time winner (2011 and 2012) of the prestigious Patrice Lumumba award by the Ugandan Universities Union of Guild Parliaments.

A number of students will also be able to take course in tourism and environment related subjects, befitting as the Madhvani Group’s Marasa Africa hospitality business is Uganda’s leading safari lodge operator and also owns and manages three of Kenya’s most popular lodges, The Ark, The Aberdare Country Club and the Mara Leisure Camp.

Well done to the winning students and all the best for the courses over the next years.
