2014 Carnival banner tells Seychellois that the festival is now just a month away

CARNIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE VICTORIA: THE CLOCK IS TICKING TOWARDS THE LAUNCH

The Seychelles Honorary Consul and tourism ambassador in Tanzania, Maryvonne Pool has officially handed over the Carnaval International de Victoria 2014 banner to the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB), Ms. Sherin Naiken. Maryvonne handed Ms. Naiken the 20 metre long banner in a short ceremony held at the Tourism Board headquarters at Bel Ombre in the presence of STB’s Director of Marketing, Rosemarie Hoareau and some of the tourism board’s staff.

With less than a month left now until the Carnaval international de Victoria is officially launched on the 25th of April, the handing over of the banner is another event building momentum for the festival days.

In addition to the 20 metre long banner, which will be displayed in the heart of Victoria at the National Cultural Centre, where incidentally also the Ministry of Tourism and Culture is located, Mrs. Pool has also delivered to the Tourism Board six additional street banners measuring 8x 3.5 metres long and another one of 10 x 3.5m for display across the city as well as on strategic points where they are highly visible by the passing traffic. ‘As a Seychellois living overseas I have pledged to provide the Tourism Board with all the banners needed for its major events, as a way of giving back to my country’ Maryvonne Pool said.

Mrs. Pool who is excited for the carnival to take place for the fourth time this year, explained that she is coordinating the Seychelles float for Honorary Consuls representing the country abroad, who will be taking part with this year.

After receiving the banners from Maryvonne Pool, Ms. Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board said: ‘I am thankful for support like this, as it shows that our very own Seychellois are taking ownership of our carnival’.

Meanwhile, Carnaval International de Victoria will be officially opened on 25th April and once again will many delegations from all over the world participate and show off their culture at the event.

The Seychelles Tourism Board holds the Carnaval International de Victoria annually, providing the ideal platform for the many participating countries to showcase the different aspects of their cultures.

Now in its fourth edition, the Carnaval de Carnivals, the Carnival International de Victoria is an event not to be missed as this year there will also be a special kiddies’ carnival as part of the celebrations on the last day of the three day festival. The major carnivals of the world such as Notting Hill from the UK, the Brazil Carnival, the Dusseldorf Carnival from Germany, the Italy Carnival, the Carnival from Trinidad & Tobago and the Carnival from Indonesia have already all confirmed that they are flying to Seychelles to parade together followed by Cultural troupes from the Community of Nations. This year even the Kingdom of Bhutan will be present at the Carnival with a troupe of performers as will once again be groups from the African mainland, including from Kwa Zulu Natal.
