Hai Phong authorities incinerated 615 kilograms of African elephant tusks on Oct. 23 after seizing them in a 2023 smuggling case. Forensic tests later confirmed the tusks came from Loxodonta africana, the African elephant species protected under Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
