RwandAir rings the jingle bells well ahead of Christmas

RWANDAIR MAKES CHRISTMAS COME EARLY FOR SOME LUCKY FREQUENT FLYERS

(Posted 07th December 2014)

Last week did Christmas come early for two lucky frequent flyers with RwandAir when they won a ticket each to a RwandAir destination of their choice, and in business class no less.

RwandAir’s ‘Dream Miles’ has since its launch attracted over 13.000 participants and cardholders, who, depending on their status, i.e. Diamond, Gold and Silver can enjoy a range of benefits, including to take part in such festive season raffles.

The airline’s CEO John Mirenge was at hand for the tickets to be given to the two winners during a function at the Kigali Serena Hotel.

RwandAir now serves 15 destinations out of their hub in Kigali, domestically flying to Kamembe (presently off line for runway resurfacing and extension), to Accra, Lagos, Douala, Libreville and Brazzaville in West Africa, to Johannesburg in South Africa and to Entebbe, Juba, Nairobi, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Mwanza in East Africa. Dubai is served daily as the only destination outside the African continent.

Operating a fleet of two B737-800NG’s, two B737-700NG’s, two Bombardier CRJ900NextGen’s and one Bombardier Q400NextGen Turboprop has the airline in early November confirmed to this correspondent that a second Bombardier A400NextGen will join the fleet in 2015 while another B737-800NG will be delivered in 2016.

On the drawing board for 2015 are more destinations in Southern and Western Africa, among them Abidjan and possibly Mumbai – which can be reached nonstop with the B737-700NG – while intercontinental flights are only planned for the time after the delivery of two B787 Dreamliners’, expected in 2017. At that stage will the airline eye flights to China and Europe with no specifics available at this time about the cities to be served.

Now carrying more than half a million passengers per year has the airport in Kigali also been expanded and modernized to cater for the added numbers using Rwanda’s capital city as their transit hub when arriving from for instance West Africa and flying on to the capitals and main cities across the Eastern African region or to Dubai.
