Dear ATCNews Readers,
Conserving over 20 million hectares across Africa is an enormous undertaking, and often a sobering endeavour. But what inspires us at the end of each year is what was made possible thanks to the unwavering support of our government, community, and NGO partners, our key funders, and people like you – who share our vision of conserving nature for the benefit of humanity.
With your support, you helped us:
- Conserve over 20 million hectares (50 million acres) of wild, functioning ecosystems;
- Maintain full-time staff of 5,217 people, 97% of whom are nationals;
- Launch our Rhino Rewild initiative, which aims to rewild 2,000 captive-bred rhino over the next decade, with over 300 rhino moved this year;
- Conduct surveys that led to the announcement of the largest land mammal migration on Earth, The Great Nile Migration, in South Sudan;
- Provide health care benefits to over 70,000 people; and
- Manage 23 parks in 13 countries in Africa, with the addition of Gambella National Park in Ethiopia just last week.
The need to protect biodiversity in Africa has never been more urgent or important. What is not actively being managed today, will be lost. This is why we are asking for your support, to help us continue to safeguard some of the most globally significant landscapes and their biodiversity. Today, and in the future.
