When we undertake the long-term management of national parks across Africa, we’re ensuring that wildlife and their habitats are protected, and that local communities are positively impacted too. Here are just a few of the exciting things we’ve been working on in the past 12 months:
- We brought rhinos back to Akagera National Park in Rwanda after a ten-year absence;
- More than 9,500 people have received medical treatment from our African Parks supported mobile health clinics and hospitals;
- We stopped an eight-year poaching onslaught of elephants in Zakouma National Park in Chad, and their population is now on the rise for the first time in over a decade; and
- We have the largest counter-poaching force for any one NGO in Africa, where almost 1,000 rangers are creating safe places for both people and wildlife each and every day.
Sadly, in conservation, good news is often just the absence of bad news. But here at African Parks, we’re seeing good news all around us. In the coming weeks, we’ll continue to bring you these hopeful stories from the parks and provide more information on how you can help. |
