ONE DOWN AND HOW MANY MORE TO GO AS AIR TANZANIA STARTS SEARCH FOR NEW CEO

Not even a day after the Tanzanian Minister for Works, Transport and Communications suspended the CEO of Air Tanzania, the ailing national airline, have more news emerged from Dar es Salaam that the government is now formally seeking to recruit a successor.
An advert appeared earlier today through which the government is now recruiting a new Director General, the title used in the state owned airline for what is generally described as a CEO.
A five year contract awaits the successful applicant, as will two brand new Bombardier Q400NG aircraft, which the government paid a deposit for and which are due for delivery from September onwards.
It is understood, a waste of money as many aviation pundits may think, that a group of experts was instituted a few weeks ago by government to look into the causes for ATCL’s past failures and how to turn the national airline around and make it financially self reliant instead of depending on constant heavy bailouts from taxpayers.
For now it is best of luck to whoever tops the rankings and gets an appointment letter and happy landings in the process, unlike most former ATCL CEO’s whose careers were cut short by suspensions, sackings and on occasions even prosecutions.
