TANZANIA GETS AIR LINK WITH MAURITIUS

Last weekend saw the inaugural flight, with incidentally little fanfare, by Air Mauritius to the Tanzanian commercial capital of Dar es Salaam.
The flight will operate once a week, on Fridays and continue via Nairobi to return to Mauritius.
This follows hot on the heels of Air Mauritius’ launch of a service to the Mozambique capital of Maputo as part of the airline’s attempt to increase links with the African mainland in an effort to position itself as a major Indian Ocean island aviation hub linking the Far and South East with Africa.
Air Seychelles, which in December 2014 had launched twice weekly flights from Mahe to Dar es Salaam, had earlier this year pulled out of the route after disappointing traffic numbers and reallocated this capacity to raise frequencies from Mahe to both Madagascar and Mauritius.
The new route by Air Mauritius will facilitate twin centre holidays, with tourists from the Far and South East and maybe even India having a beach vacation before coming to Tanzania for a classic African safari to the most high profile national parks, the Selous not far from Dar es Salaam and of course the world renowned Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.
