AIR NAMIBIA FACES AXE AS NAMIBIAN GOVERNMENT DECIDES FOR LIQUIDATION
(Posted 11th February 2021)
Information was received that the Namibian government, after months of deliberations and a series of U-turns has now finally decided to liquidate the national airline.
It is understood that all operations would be cancelled, effective today, 11th of February 2021, to facilitate the voluntary liquidation of Air Namibia. A meeting between government representatives, airline management and unions is scheduled to take place later this week to discuss modalities and severance pay packages.
The board of directors of the airline had suddenly resigned a week ago after the Namibian government failed to oppose an application in court to have the airline liquidated, eventually forcing the government’s hand.
Past efforts to find a strategic partner did not bear fruit.
At the time of closure was the airline operating, or having in storage, a mixed fleet of 10 aircraft including leased planes such as two A330-200.
