Air Seychelles sets new passenger record during La Digue’s Feast of Assumption

NEW PASSENGER RECORD FOR AIR SEYCHELLES’ DOMESTIC FLIGHTS

(Posted 20th August 2015)

The weekend of the 15th of August, when La Digue celebrates the annual Feast of Assumption, saw a new record being set for passengers uplifted between Mahe and Praslin, from where visitors then took the ferry to complete the journey. 3.118 people travelled on the airline’s Twin Otters deployed on the route and the additional 21 return flights brought the total number of services that weekend to 121.

Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said when announcing the record figures: ‘We are pleased to have supported the community in celebrating the Feast of Assumption, which was also a great opportunity for tourists to experience the traditions and customs of Seychelles. The extra domestic flights were added to match the level of interest in the market and were met with a fantastic response. Additional staff were on duty and more shifts introduced to handle the extra flights, 90 per cent of which were operated on time’.

Besides the regular scheduled flights every day to Praslin does Air Seychelles also operate charter and coach services to other islands with airstrips, as the 19 seater Twin Otter is one of the best suited aircraft for short airstrips.

Air Seychelles operates six of these De Havilland built aircraft, three of them purchased brand new over the past two years.
