ATCL TO SERVE DODOMA TWICE A WEEK

Air Tanzania, with little fanfare, yesterday launched their scheduled flights to Dodoma, Tanzania’s political capital.
The service will be operated using one of the new Bombardier Q400NG’s the government acquired last year in an all economy 78 seat configuration.
Moves are underway, following a directive by President Magufuli, to shift government ministries to Dodoma, which when fully implemented will result in an increase in frequencies between Dar es Salaam, the country’s commercial and for long de facto capital and Dodoma.
An airport expansion and modernization programme has been rolled out for Dodoma (IATA: DOD / ICAO: HTDO) to expand the runway which previously was only fit for safe operations by smaller twin engined turboprop aircraft. The lengthened runway of 2.5 kilometres can now also accommodate smaller single aisle jet aircraft but not larger widebodied commercial jets. Additional improvements to terminal buildings and other facilities are said to be ongoing.
The ATCL flight from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma then continues to Kigoma (IATA: TKQ / ICAO: HTKA), a town located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika and in close vicinity to the Mahale Mountain National Park and the Katavi National Park.
