Air Tanzania recorded the arrival of the airline’s second 737 MAX 9, an aircraft type recently once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. The registration of the new aircraft is 5H-TCQ and was named “Ruaha National Park”. The East African airline is the first carrier in Africa to have taken delivery of the larger 737Max9 model in early October 2023 and has now received its second such aircraft.
The first of the two Boeings, registered as 5H-TCP and named “Olduvai Gorge”. is flying on the route to Mumbai and on intra African routes to Lusaka and Harare and the second one will now be used for both added frequencies and route expansion.
The two B737Max9’s were ordered by the Tanzanian government directly from Boeing and are owned by TGF – Tanzania Government Flight, a legal construction to avoid aircraft being confiscated abroad over past debts the airline had accumulated.
Air Tanzania’s current fleet include two Boeing B737Max9, four A220-300s, one B767-300F, two B787-8s, one DHC-8-Q300, and five DHC-8-Q400s. The airline has one more B787-8 on order from Boeing.
