AIR MAURITIUS’ RETURN TO THE SEYCHELLES WILL BRING COMPETITION TO THE ROUTE

When Air Mauritius, after a nearly 15 years absence from the route between Mauritius and the Seychelles, returns to Mahe on the 02nd of July, will the hitherto comfortable monopoly of Air Seychelles face inevitable competition.
Air Mauritius will initially fly twice a week to Mahe, using a two class Airbus A319 with 16 seats in business class and 108 seats in economy class.
Air Seychelles flies four times a week to Mauritius, using an Airbus A320 and has earlier in the year announced plans to add a fifth flight commencing on the 08th of July.

A regular source in Victoria responded to an enquiry from ATCNews.org saying: ‘As long as this means that we will have daily flights between the two key Vanilla Islands, Mauritius and the Seychelles, this should be good news. Connectivity will be improved and with daily flights can tourists then fly any day of the week between the two island states. Tourism is on the upswing in the Seychelles and on Mauritius too and more cruise port calls are expected for the coming season, calling on Port Louis and Port Victoria. What needs to be done is that the Vanilla Islands organization steps up marketing of two island visits to promote that concept.
There is an agreement between the Vanilla Island airlines in place and the two carriers should talk to each other and perhaps discuss a code share, that would be a major step forward‘.
