While no precise delivery dates are available as yet for the two Bombardier CS300 aircraft, ordered by the Tanzanian government through a dedicated parastatal and then leased on to the national airline to avoid creditors using the new birds as leverage, has confirmation been received that the two Canadian manufactured aircraft will be delivered in June this year.
The two CS300 – Tanzania was the first country in Africa to order this state of the art new jet though Egypt Air too has now placed a major order – will be used to launch several new African destinations in Southern, Eastern and West Africa.
There is also increased speculation now over the delivery date of the first Boeing B787 Dreamliner with some usually well informed sources pointing as early as July this year. This first wide body aircraft will be used to launch long haul flights to China and perhaps India though no specific destinations are confirmed at this stage while traffic and landing right applications are pending.
It is also understood that Air Tanzania is preparing for an IOSA audit which could be carried out this year.
No word has been received about the third Bombardier Q400 aircraft’s delivery which has been detained at the manufacturer’s assembly plant ahead of the planned ferry flight last year as part of claims against the Tanzanian government.
