AIR TANZANIA’S FLEET SET TO GROW WITH THE ACQUISITION OF ANOTHER VIKING Q400

(Posted 29th March 2019)

Air Tanzania has, according to information received from Canada, signed for a fourth Q400 aircraft, arguably replacing an aged Q300 aircraft.
The additional turboprop, also configured with a single class cabin, will be used to serve additional destinations in the near region and on domestic routes. Formerly known as the Bombardier Q400, more recently sold to Viking of Canada, is the aircraft worth some 31 million US Dollars.
Given the acquisition of a Boeing B787 Dreamliner, of two Airbus A220-300’s, formerly known as the Bombardier CSeries and now four Q400’s, is the overall investment by the Tanzanian government now well in excess of half a billion US Dollars.
The airline is also expecting a second Boeing B787 either in 2020 or 2021 to allow further expansion of intercontinental routes.
