Qatar Airways Group confirms after 27 years of remarkable service, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Mr. Akbar Al Baker, will be stepping down from his current position as Group Chief Executive effective 05th of November 2023, and will be succeeded by Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer as Group Chief Executive for Qatar Airways.
The move was unexpected, and no reason was given by Qatar Airways for his departure nor was a statement given by Mr. Al Baker.
Under Mr. Akbar Al Baker’s leadership, Qatar Airways has grown to become one of the most recognisable and trusted brands globally, synonymous with customer service quality and the highest of standards. The national airline of the State of Qatar has achieved an unprecedented seven-times win of the “World’s Best Airline” award, and its state-of-the-art Hamad International Airport, which is under its management and operation, has also been recognised as the “World’s Best Airport”.
Known as one of the industry’s most outspoken and influential executives = he also serves as Chairman of the oneWorld Alliance – Akbar al Baker is credited with transforming Qatar Airways into one of the world’s top airlines. During his 27-year tenure, he oversaw an aggressive expansion of the airline and a massive investment into Doha’s new international airport, which is now an established and award winning global hub.
He is also credited to see Qatar Airways successfully navigate the challenges of the global Covid19 pandemic, continuing to fly both passengers – unlike many other airlines – and in the process expand its world wide air cargo operations substantially.
The Qatar Airways Group’s contribution to helping deliver the FIFA World Cup and partnering with F1 showcased to the world its capability, commitment to excellence, and its passion for bringing the world together.
