Seychelles’ immediate former Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine, Mr. Alain St.Ange, earlier today presented his official election documents for the position of Secretary General of the UNWTO to Dr. Taleb Rifai on the sidelines of FITUR in Madrid. He did so in the presence of Minister Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, the new Tourism Minister of Seychelles. who succeeded him in office after he resigned to pursue the UNWTO top job without having to compromise his position as chief advocate of the Seychelles’ tourism industry.
This is big step for Seychelles, and the coming May elections are also very important for the UNWTO. The new SG of the UNWTO has to be the leader the world of tourism needs today and Seychelles is proposing itself as that facilitator and leader‘ said Alain St.Ange whose candidature has been endorsed not just by the Seychelles government, the archipelago’s tourism private sector but also the Vanilla Island group of countries, with more endorsements said to be coming in thick and fast.
