It took 31 seasons and five previous stops in season 31 before the globally renowned Amazing Race finally made it to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
The show did however not follow the regular script of showcasing the Pearl of Africa’s sunniest sides but dove into the reality of city life, including experiencing massive traffic jams, trying their hand in preparing our famous ‘Rollex‘ and traversing the capital through #OwinoMarket using Boda Boda’s and local taxis, i.e. matatus if using the Kenyan word for this kind of transport.
While Uganda’s natural attractions, national parks and scenic mountains, rivers and lakes may have drawn a short straw in the series have viewers from around the world nevertheless taken to Google and other search sites to find out more about the country, and with the Amazing Race teams gone, they might well be next to follow their footsteps and indulge in gorilla tracking, white water rafting, abseiling and visiting game parks like Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth National Park or Kibaale, to name but a few.
The Ugandan ‘race’ ended at the pier of Munyonyo, a befitting venue no doubt, giving viewers a taste of things to expect, when they book a visit to the Pearl of Africa for real.
