An AMREF (African Medical Research Foundation) Citation 560XL air ambulance jet reportedly crashed this afternoon not long after take off from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport while heading for Hargeisa / Republic of Somaliland.
Registered as 5Y-FDM, MSN 560-5674 did the aircraft have four personnel on board.
All four were killed in the crash as were two more people on the ground.
An air accident investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the crash. From local Kenyan news sources it was further learned that eye witnesses in the crash area reported that the jet showed signs of an explosion while still airborne before subsequently crashing to the ground.
Condolences are expressed to the families of those who perished in the crash and also to all staff at AMREF, aka Flying Doctors, an organization which plays a vital role in operating air ambulance services across Kenya and the wider Eastern African region.
