Amuka Lodge founder succumbs to long illness

JOHAN GENADE RIP

(Posted 16th March 2016)

Losing a friend is never an easy thing to come to terms with and in this case it is made worse by the fact that we worked closely together over many years to advance the breeding programme for Uganda’s rhinos at Ziwa.
Johan Genade, the late husband of Angie Genade, CEO of the Rhinofund Uganda and in charge of the Rhino Sanctuary on Ziwa, fell in love with our country when Angie was recruited as CEO. Over the years, he made a name for himself by building the Amuka Safari Lodge on the sanctuary, which he capably managed until his illness advances too far and his sons stepped up.
Johan was a keen and active supporter of the rhino breeding programme on Ziwa and served in several capacities including as an advisor to the Rhinofund.
Johan earlier today passed away after a long and hard fought battle with cancer and the loss for the Genade family is my own loss too.
I wish Angie, her family and close friends and the staff of Amuka Lodge and of the Rhinofund / Rhino Sanctuary the strength to deal with this loss and express my condolences to them all.
Rest in Peace Johan – and watch over ‘your’ rhinos for wherever you are! Your passing will leave a huge gap and you will be remembered fondly, as a friend and colleague.
