COME TOMORROW COME DURBAN FOR ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES

(Posted 15th December 2015)

Today not quite yet, but tomorrow will this route map of Ethiopian Airlines come into its own when the airline adds flights to the South African city of Durban.

The service ET 845/844 will link Durban to and from Addis Ababa every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, for now, though growing demand will see the number of weekly flights eventually expand.

Durban is the third South African city getting connected after Johannesburg and Cape Town by Ethiopian Airlines, making it a whopping 53 destinations across Africa, more than any other airline on the continent. It will also be the airline’s 92nd international destination overall, affirming Ethiopian’s undisputed claim to be Africa’s number one airline.

When the initial announcement was made, and reported here of course, did Ethiopian Airlines’ CEO Tewolde Gebremariam have this to say at the time: ‘As a Pan-African airline working to bring Africa together and closer to the world, we are very pleased to spread our wings to our 3rd destination in South Africa. The new Durban service will give our customers more and convenient connectivity options when traveling within, to and from the continent. We will continue to expand our reach in our home market in Africa with a view to support to the continent’s socio-economic integration and development. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dube Trade Port, ACSA, KZN’s Economic and Tourism Development departments for their relentless support to make this new operation a reality’.

As the airline takes delivery of more state of the art Boeing B787’s and more so when the world’s latest and most advanced passenger jet joins the ET fleet in Q2 next year, the Airbus A350XWB, will no doubt further routes be added eventually reaching the landmark of 100 international destinations.

For Durban it is therefore going to be an exciting day tomorrow and for passengers, crew and aircraft it is Happy Landings from this correspondent.
