BRAND NEW DE HAVILLAND Q400 IMPOUNDED AS TANZANIA TAKES OUT HER ANGER OF CANADIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER

The Tanzanian government is reportedly hopping mad that yet another newly purchased aircraft, a De Havilland Q400, has been seized on instructions of court.
The same situation happened two years ago when another brand new Q400 – at the time manufactured by Bombardier which in the meantime sold the programme to De Havilland – was seized in order to compel the Tanzanian government to pay out a long standing court award. After months of negotiations was the aircraft eventually released, reportedly after the Tanzanian government paid up.
The present situation is a follow up by the claimant who had an Airbus A220 of Air Tanzania impounded two months ago in Johannesburg but a higher court reversed the impound order, though the principle case is ongoing.
Both Air Tanzania’s record on payments for services rendered and that of their government when court awards are made against them, is poor to say the least and in this case has the proverbial come back to be bitten where it hurts.
