It was a narrow escape for the crew of a yet to be fully identified Antonov 26, when they managed to return to Juba and land without further incident after losing a propeller midair.
The propeller hit the ground close to road construction work in Jonglei state, near a location known as Kuei-Keer, from where construction workers alerted the authorities and media in Juba.

Aviation accidents are a regular occurrence in South Sudan and only two months ago did the chronically under-capacitated South Sudan Civil Aviation publicly announce a tightening of regulatory oversight. As a result of this latest safety incident has the regulator now banned the use of any Antonov 26 aircraft in South Sudan except those registered and flying under UN mandate.
