AFRICAN SPORTS TOURISM WEEK STAGES SPORTS TOURISM MASTERCLASS
(Posted 13th March 2021)
The African Sports Tourism Week, the premier pan-African sports travel trade event, will be staging a sports tourism masterclass for sports commissions/ministries/associations and tourism boards/ministries in Nigeria, on the 21st – 24th of April, 2021, at Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resorts, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The masterclass was conceived out of the concern for how opportunities in sporting events, especially, aren’t being maximized, because sports and tourism have always stood aloof to each other, in Nigeria. The masterclass themed ‘Understanding How Collaboration between Sport and Tourism Works, for Socioeconomic Benefits To Destinations’, seeks to address strategies, framework for collaboration and sustainability.
The masterclass will cover areas such as Delivering Worldclass Sporting Events from Bidding to Execution, Sport Holiday & Hospitality, Sport Heritage, Sport As a Tool for Destination Branding.
Speakers include Bukola Olopade – Lead Consultant at Nilayo Sports Management (organizers of Lagos City Marathon), Maurici Lisbona Cabo – CEO of Sports Tourism Consult Barcelona, Hicham El Amrani – Former Secretary-General of CAF/2014 FIFA World Cup Match Commissioner and Prince Deji Ajomale-McWord – Secretary-General of World Sports Tourism Council.
