Good day ATCNews readers and colleagues,
This will be the last AviaDev Africa newsletter of 2021 and it is arguably the most exciting!
We have just announced that after a 3 year hiatus, AviaDev Africa will be taking place as a live event in June 2022. Reigniting the plan for 2020, we will take the event to the Treasure Island of Madagascar with the support of our wonderful hosts Ravinala Airports and the Ministry of Transport and meteorology of Madagascar. The website is updated and registration is also open now so you can reserve your spot!
At AviaDev, we are all about embracing new, disruptive but innovative ideas to improve the operating landscape. One of these was covered on my most recent podcast, where Sylvain Bosc, CEO of Avico and former CCO of South African Airways and fastjet, spoke to me about the ACMI/ wet lease opportunity as a cost-effective method of operaton. The link to the podcast is below.
Last week, in collaboration with AviaDev Consult, we delivered a workshop focused on how airports can build incentive schemes to attract the airlines back to their airport/ destination. This was a great session and a special thanks to Martin Gitonga, Head of Network Planning and Alliances at Kenya Airways for supporting the event with his insight.
In our bid to support the next generation of African aviators, we also delivered the fourth episode of our webinar series focused on careers in Management in partnership with Airspace Africa and the African Aviation Group (on facebook). The session attracted over 1000 aspiring young African aviators.
2021 has undoubtedly been challenging, especially with the rise of new variants and the erratic government response to travel restrictions. Our industry is resilient and there is pent up demand to travel again and we remain committed to supporting the community in 2022 and beyond, by delivering the first ever aviation event in Madagascar and continuing to bring the voice of African aviation’s voice to the forefront through the podcast and social media.
Wishing you all a wonderful festive period and looking forward to seeing you all in person in 2022
