Bangui set for more air connections as one of Africa’s leading airlines returns

KENYA AIRWAYS CONFIRMS A RETURN TO BANGUI

(Posted 21st October 2015)

Kenya Airways earlier today announced their imminent return to the Central African Republic capital of Bangui. Flight to the CAR were suspended over growing civil unrest in 2013 and with the situation now much calmer has Kenya’s national carrier opted to re-start flights.

Using a Boeing B737-800NG for the route will the airline initially offer two flights per week with a routing from Nairobi via Bangui to Douala in Cameroon.

The airline’s Group CEO Mr. Mbuvi Ngunze used the opportunity to release the following statement: ‘We are pleased to announce our return to the Central African Republic, linking the capital of Bangui to the world through our extensive network in Nairobi.Passengers will also benefit from our new flights between Bangui and Douala. We will be watching the market closely with a view to add frequencies in the near future’.

Kenya Airways a few weeks ago also resumed flights to some West African destinations where, on directive of the Ministry of Health in Kenya, services were withdrawn at the height of the Ebola hysteria, costing the airline dearly in terms of lost revenues which were pegged at between four and five billion Kenya Shillings at the time.

In a related development is an announcement expected very soon about the delivery dates of the two remaining B787-8 Dreamliners and one more Boeing B737-800NG. For breaking and regular aviation news from Eastern Africa look no further but this space!
