While the Masai Mara often stands at the forefront of Kenya’s global safari image, the country’s largest national parks—Tsavo East and Tsavo West—offer a distinct and expansive alternative. Located in southeastern Kenya, these two adjoining parks together span over 21,000 km², forming one of the largest protected ecosystems in Africa.
Despite their size and ecological importance, Tsavo East and West remain comparatively lesser known to international visitors. Their diverse landscapes, wide-ranging wildlife, and relatively low tourist density make them a compelling option for those seeking a more open and less commercial safari experience.
A Typical Safari Journey with Lofty Tours – Crafted in detail
Day 1: Arrival in Mombasa – The Gateway to the Wild
Your journey begins at Moi International Airport in Mombasa, where you’re welcomed by the Lofty Tours team. Depending on your travel style, we arrange a night by the beach or a direct transfer into the bush.
Days 2–3: Tsavo East – Elephants & Endless Horizons
A morning departure takes you into Tsavo East, known for its red-dusted elephants, dramatic baobabs, and open plains. It’s one of the few parks where you can drive for hours without seeing another vehicle—offering truly private encounters with wildlife. Think lions lounging under acacias, herds of giraffes gracefully moving across the savannah, and a silence that speaks directly to your soul.
Day 4: Tsavo West – From Savannah to Volcanic Beauty
After a night at one of our handpicked lodges or tented camps, the adventure continues in Tsavo West. Rich in geological diversity, this park features lava fields, natural springs (like the famed Mzima Springs), and rugged hills. Wildlife here is more elusive, making each sighting even more rewarding.
You’ll also visit historical sites like the Shetani Lava Flow, a reminder of the park’s volcanic past and spiritual lore.
Day 5: Farewell Game Drive & Return
Your final day begins with an early morning game drive, followed by a bush breakfast overlooking the landscape. Depending on your onward plans, we offer drop-off at the coast or connections to Nairobi, Amboseli, or the Kilimanjaro region.

- Untouched Diversity – A mosaic of ecosystems, from dry plains to green springs, volcanic hills to wetlands
