Biodegradable lunch take away boxes launched in Seychelles

TAKE AWAY BOXES IN THE SEYCHELLES GO ‘GREEN

(Posted 03rd March 2016)

Repeat visitors to the Seychelles and more independent minded travelers criss crossing the island by public busses to take in the sights, will no doubt be aware of the many take away shops, owned by locals who offer traditional Creole dishes.
At a cost of anywhere between 45 to 60 Seychelles Rupees does the content of the loaded boxes not just still that peckish feeling but actually fill a stomach.
One of the more recent additions to the take away scene has now launched bio-degradable lunch boxes, ditching the styrofoam types which posed an increasing problem of waste management. The new type is made of sugar cane, while spoons and forks given out with the box are made of corn starch, and once the food is eaten can the empty containers be disposed in any rubbish bin and will in the space of weeks dissolve completely.
It is understood that the government of Seychelles is encouraging take away owners to copy this concept and introduce on a large scale the bio-degradable containers to reduce the waste disposal burden which styrofoam containers pose. Towards that end will the new type be VAT exempted, producing a handsome saving for the participating businesses.
