SEYCHELLES SIGNS BILATERAL AIR SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH BRAZIL

The Seychelles Tourism Board has for a while now been eyeing the South American markets, among them Brazil, to tap into that country’s substantial outbound tourist pool. Presently about 1.000 Brazilians visit the archipelago every year, a figure STB seeks to increase substantially.
Already cooperating year after year over the Seychelles’ Carnival Festival, which for several years now featured Brazilian performers, have the two governments now added another element of partnership when they signed a new bilateral air services agreement earlier in the week.
It was the Brazilian Ambassador, who while based in Dar es Salaam is accredited to the Republic of the Seychelles, who signed the new deal with Seychelles’ Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mr. Barry Foure in Victoria, where he had also called on President James Alix Michel.
Both countries airlines are now able to seek landing rights, sign commercial cooperation agreements or even ink code share deals. Presently, air links only exist via Europe, some hubs in the Gulf and notably with Ethiopian Airlines which just announced the launch of flights to Sao Paulo. Ethiopian flies three times a week from Addis Ababa to Mahe, the fastest one stop connection from Brazil to the Seychelles right now.
While visiting the Seychelles has the Brazilian Ambassador also mentioned the imminent ratification of a bilateral education agreement under which Seychellois students will in the future be able to study and advance their academic credentials in Brazilian institutions of higher learning including marine, tourism and hospitality related fields.
