The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority has issued a NOTAM, short for Notice to Air Men, that effective today, 31st of December 2023, the Kisoro Airstrip will be closed until the 26th of January 2024.
KISORO RUNWAY 18/36 CLOSED.
REF: AD 2-HUKI-1-3 (30 MAR 17).
However, ATCNews has learned that Aerolink Uganda has been given permission to pick up and drop off booked passengers until the 02nd of January 2024 although all departures out of Kisoro must take off before or latest at 09.00 hrs (a.m.) local time.
Said Aerolink Uganda in a message received from them overnight:
‘We have been allowed to operate from 31st Dec 2023 to 2nd Jan 2024
however, departure out of Kisoro airstrip has to be 0900hrs latest.
Our operations team will notify agents/clients on their flight updates and/or changes.

For any passengers booked to/from Kisoro, please advise us on an alternative airstrip. We will amend the bookings to Kihihi as it is the closest airstrip.‘
Anyone intending to track gorillas at the Kisoro / Nteko side of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, who had planned to fly to Kisoro to shorten the journey to and from the national park, are advised to make alternative arrangements with their safari operator in order to allow for the daylong drive from Kampala to and from the safari lodges near Kisoro.
