Brussels Airlines reaches out to the African market place

BRUSSELS AIRLINES – DOING BUSINESS WITH AFRICA AND FOR AFRICA

(Posted 18th December 2014)

For an airline like Brussels Airlines, which is heavily invested in flights to Africa, one of Europe’s best connected carrier to the African continent in fact, it is important to stay in close contact with their clients, through the country sales offices and otherwise, as best as they can.

Towards that end has Brussels Airlines now launched a dedicated Facebook Page for their African destinations and clientele, where regular news updates and information can be posted and where passengers can interact with the airline, offering compliments, or in rarer cases explaining their complaints.

At the same time did the airline produce a video clip aimed to support the sales efforts in the United States, where Brussels Airlines is flying year round to New York and during the summer season to Washington DC, to give them unique selling points for the African destinations SN serves. 2014 was for all airlines a challenging year but for airlines with close ties to Africa it was even more challenging due to the Ebola outbreak in Liberia and Sierra Leone, impacting heavily, largely due to inaccurate and tendentious reporting by global media houses, on the traffic flow into and across Africa.

Meanwhile has Brussels Airlines in Uganda supported a unique private initiative, a three week long para motor tour across the country and many of the national parks, covering the country from a unique airborne perspective. Filming took place from Jinja to Mount Elgon, from Kidepo to Murchisons Falls, from Lake Albert to the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, from Queen Elizabeth NP to Bwindi Forest, from Lake Mutanda’s Chameleon Hill to Lake Mburo and then across to the Ssese Island group in Lake Victoria. The edited short version will eventually be shown on inbound flights of Brussels Airlines when enroute to Entebbe, no doubt helping to promote the destination. More details about this unique para motor tour, piloted by a Belgian citizen, one Jean Michel Haussmann and supported besides Brussels Airlines by the Ministry of Tourism and the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Also ‘on board’ were a number of Uganda’s leading adventure attractions, resort and lodge operators and, needless to mention this correspondent in his private capacity as a leading member on the advisory team. Full details will be featuring here soon with some of the best pictures taken and links to the video uploads on YouTube. Watch this space!
