ITB in Berlin, WTM in London, FITUR in Madrid, TopResa in Paris, BIT in Milan or other tourism trade fairs across Europe need to be attended by Ugandan companies keen to be visible in that key market and sell their gorilla permits and safaris.
Travel however does have a price and it is no wonder that Brussels Airlines has become one of the most favoured airlines for the Ugandan tourism trade as a result of providing huge rebates for those wishing to travel and promote the country, and hopefully of course the five weekly flights from Brussels to Entebbe.
Said Belinda Sebunya of their Kampala office: ‘As many as 20 companies go to the key events and all it takes is to send us an email and we respond to bone fide safari operators or hoteliers and grant them a rebate ticket. With us, via Brussels, they reach many cities in Europe either on our own flights or flights in codeshare with our partners‘.

Meanwhile are indications emerging that Brussels Airlines, after the loss of the code shared flight with Jet Airways – that Indian airline now in the Etihad stable moved its flights from Mumbai via Brussels to Toronto to Amsterdam earlier in the year – may very well begin their own flights from Brussels to Mumbai, though no confirmation has yet been received from any of the regular sources at the airline’s offices in Belgium or Uganda.
Clearly what is required for that to happen is the delivery of another Airbus A330 – number 10 is joining the fleet later in the year – and a big promotional push in the airline’s core markets especially in West Africa and Europe but also North America.
