6TH EDITION OF BURUNDI’S ‘FESTICAB’ FILM FESTIVAL UNDERWAY IN BUJUMBURA

‘Festicab’, Burundi’s International Film Festival, now in its 6th edition is currently underway in the capital city of Bujumbura and will run until the 20th of June. During the weeklong event will Burundi host film makers from across the East African Community and Europe. This year Festicab has started to showcase local talents as well as a number of artists who are from EAC and have come to Burundi to share their work. Festicab is also a celebration of culture through movies and people will be able to watch the movies in various locations across the city, from a public garden ‘Jardin Public’, Centre Jeune Kamenye, Institute Francais de Bujumbura to the restaurant Royal Palm Hotel on the Lake Tanganyika. Visitors to Bujumbura during the week as well as locals are in for a treat, thanks to the promoter and initiator of the festival Leonce Ngabo.
Next week as Festicab ends will on Saturday the ‘Fête de la Music’ take place. One enitre street in the city centre will be closed, as artists with different kind of music will be take over Boulevard de L’ Uprona and celebrate music. Over 130 artists have shown interest and have signed up to perform, from traditional instruments playing local tunes to the more contemporary rock. The event has been described as a Burundian party like no other where the carnival atmosphere will come to life on the streets of Bujumbura. From 11am to 5pm, music will be played around the city and the fun part will carry on at different location until late from Havanna Bar, Botanika Restaurant, Cafe Gourmand, Bwiza 5th Avenue and Vouvouzela.
This will be followed by Burundi Tourism launching an excursion to Rusizi National Park, which will be done as a partnership between the National Tourism Office of Burundi and the environment and conservation agency. Rusizi National Park is only 20 minutes from Bujumbura where people can enjoy a day out to enjoy the biodiversity of an ecosystem a stone throw away from the capital, making it after the Nairobi National Park only the second such protected area in close vicinity to a major city.
And as a preview, in July Bujumbura will host the Bujumbura Fashion Week from the 01st to 05th of July. This is an event NOT to be missed. Burundi will be hosting several international fashion designers from Africa who have signed up to come to Bujumbura to showcase their creations.
