CABO VERDE AIRLINES POSTPONES LAUNCH OF LUANDA FLIGHTS
(Posted 24th October 2019)
ATCNews in August reported that Cabo Verde Airlines was eyeing flights to the Angolan capital of Luanda by the end of this year.
The latest information received from sources close to the airline however now suggests that this may be pushed to mid 2020.
The source cited commercial reasons for the decision, one of those no doubt being the repatriation of sales proceeds, a challenge many other airlines also struggle with. The Angolan government had promised to resolve this problem but todate not much has changed.
The postponed launch will also give Cabo Verde Airlines added time to market the flights between Sal and Luanda better and ensure connectivity into the rest of the airline’s network.
Until that time though will Cabo Verde Airlines rely on the two weekly codeshare flights operated by TAAG between Luanda and Sal, which enroute also stop at Sao Tome & Principe.
The source hastened to add that the planned flight launch to Washington DC and to Porto Allegre remain on course for the 09th and 11th of December respectively.
