Call for Submissions for the Ecowarrior Awards 2024!

Do you believe in sustainable tourism practices that leave a positive impact on our planet? Then get ready to engage with the Ecowarrior Awards 2024!
The Ecowarrior Awards, an initiative by Ecotourism Kenya, serve as a prestigious platform for recognizing and appreciating exemplary efforts in responsible tourism practices. These awards honor significant achievements in the tourism and conservation sectors, aiming to foster a mindset that values and promotes practices which balance environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and economic viability in Kenya.
We are thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 17th edition of the Ecowarrior Awards.
The theme in focus is ‘Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals through Sustainable Tourism.’ It will look at notable and impactful sustainable tourism engagements that are actualizing the sustainable development goals.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) define the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, which were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. They are presented as 17 goals touching on key aspects.

Sustainable tourism has the potential to contribute, directly or indirectly to all of the goals. Through sustainable practices, it significantly contributes to sustainable development by driving economic growth, fostering social inclusion, and promoting environmental stewardship. As a major economic sector, tourism generates employment, supports local businesses, and provides income opportunities, particularly in underserved regions. Additionally, tourism encourages cultural exchange and understanding, which fosters social cohesion and inclusivity. It also plays a crucial role in environmental conservation, as responsible tourism practices emphasize the protection of natural habitats and biodiversity. By integrating sustainable practices, the tourism industry can minimize its environmental footprint and contribute to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. Therefore, tourism not only supports but has the potential to significantly advance the global agenda for sustainable development.
