CONGOLESE CARGO BOEING 737 VEERS OFF RUNWAY IN #LUBUMBASHI AFTER NOSE GEAR COLLAPSE

It was a lucky escape for the crew on board this Boeing B737-300F when, upon landing in the Southern Congolese city of Lubumbashi the nosewheel gear collapsed while still in the braking phase.
The nearly 29 year old aircraft, registered as 9S-ASG, MSN 24378/1704 ‘only‘ left the runway and suffered limited hull and engine damage instead of potentially breaking apart and going up in flames, with all credit due to the crew of the aircraft.

The aircraft, according to records accessed, is owned and operated by Services Air, which on Christmas Eve 2015 suffered an Airbus A310F accident in the city of Mbuji-Mayi. The aircraft, on third attempt to land, came down long and then overshot the runway and killed 8 people on the ground in a village outside the perimeter fence.
It is incidents like these which kept Congo on the EU’s aviation black list and the latest accident in Lubumbashi will do little to remove the country from it.
