A Cessna 172, registered as 5Y-CDC, built in 1978 under MSN 17271801, which is owned and operated by the Kenya Aeronautical College, crashed under yet to be established circumstances soon after taking off from Malindi Airport.

Upon impact on the ground did the aircraft catch fire and burn out.

While there are conflicting reports on the number of cashualties it appears that three people on the ground were killed when the plane hit them while three on board the stricken aircraft apparently survived and were taken to hospitals.

An air accident investigation is underway to establish the cause of the crash and police are also investigating the death of those on the ground.
