NO PASSENGERS ON BOARD AS CESSNA GRAND CARAVAN CRASHES IN KENYA’S NORTH

A Cessna C208B Grand Caravan crashed in a mountainous area near Marsabit, close to the site of another crash in 2006. The Cessna had come from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport (WIL/HKNW) and was set to pick up passengers from Marsabit airstrip (RBT/HKMB).
The weather was reported as foggy at the time, similar to the circumstances of the 2006 crash, a detail which should have been factored in as the Cessna tried to approach the Marsabit airstrip.
Registered in Kenya as 5Y-JKN, MSN 208B0688, had the aircraft – which was totally destroyed in the crash – first entered service in 1998, making it 23 years old.
The aircraft, operated by Aeronav Air Services, had been chartered by the Marsabit County government to uplift a delegation.
Aeronav Air Services, a charter airline based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, was launched in 1997 and had suffered no fatal accidents since then.
