News are emerging from Kampala that Mr. Sam Mwandha has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority as Dr. Andrew Seguya prepares to step down from this role he held since he joined the organization. Sam Mwandha will take up his position on the 01st of March.
Andrew took over at UWA when the wildlife management body was in disarray from the fallout caused by bad board leadership at the time trying to assume executive functions and in the process almost destroyed both reputation and functionality of UWA.
Dr. Andrew, who was drafted in from sister body Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, first in an acting capacity before getting his formal appointment, then had to bring calm and common sense back to the organization, a task which he accomplished despite at times – and often entirely unwarranted – critique from outsiders with little understanding of the challenges UWA faces in their day to day work.
This is as good an opportunity as it comes to thank Dr. Andrew for the services to conservation in Uganda and for the trusted cooperation extended over the past years, which culminated in an agreement last year to enter into a media partnership between ATCNews.org and UWA.
Sam Mwandha is no stranger to the business of conservation, given his personal track record over the past decades and will no doubt be able to continue the ongoing work at UWA where he in the past served in several key portfolios.
For him it is a warm welcome and all the best, to the new Executive Director now taking charge as well as to the outgoing one in his future endeavours.
