Change of guard at the Kigali Marriott Hotel

NEW GENERAL MANAGER INTRODUCED AT THE KIGALI MARRIOTT HOTEL

News from Kigali speak of a change of guard at the Marriott Kigali Hotel, where Kenneth Shore has reportedly been replaced by Rex Nijhoff, a career hotelier whose early connections with Marriott go back to the 1990’s.

Rex joins from Mumbai where he previously managed both the Marriott Executive Apartments at Lakeside Chalet and the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel, also under Marriott management.
The new hotel, only opened last year, is facing stiff competition from the Kigali Serena Hotel which is located almost next door, the Radisson Blu Kigali which also opened ahead of the African Union Summit last year in June and the upcoming Ramada Hotel, which is located almost opposite the Marriott Hotel in Kigali.
Opened initially in two stages ahead of and for the AU Summit but not under the Marriott trade name at the time – the hotel only opened formally in October last year – is the new General Manager now tasked to raise occupancies, conference and F&B sales.
International branded hotels like the Marriott play a major role in Rwanda’s march towards becoming one of Africa’s foremost MICE destinations alongside national airline RwandAir which is expected to commence intercontinental flights by April this year while at the same time expanding connectivity across Africa.
