Changes loom large for Kenya’s tourism public sector as government struggles to find funds

Information has been received from Nairobi that the Kenya Tourism Research Institute will be merged with the Kenya Tourism Board, following a decision by the Kenyan cabinet which looked at streamlining, and making more cost effective, the entire public sector – tourism not spared.

Six Kenya state corporations are due to be restructured – whatever that might mean given the cash crunch the government is facing – and among them are the tourism related Bomas of Kenya and the Kenya Utalii College, the latter a Centre of Excellence in Eastern Africa and a benchmark organisation for the entire African continent.

Nine Kenya state corporations are due to be dissolved while 42 others are due to be merged while some will be absorbed by their respective home ministries.

A total of 271 state corporations were reportedly assessed in the long lasting exercise which results and recommendations were sanctioned and approved by the Kenyan cabinet earlier this week.
