In the effort to make Kenya a culinary hub, Chefs Delight Awards has partnered with Kenya Tourism Board during this year’s Magical Kenya Tourism Expo. The competition’s organizer will have a Chefs Delight corner where several nominated restaurants at the Coastal region will display and showcase their rich and varied menus. This platform will act as a launch pad for the Chefs Delight Coastal Region programme which follows in the footsteps of the Nairobi launch of the competition last week.

Mr. Mansoor Jiwani the CEO and founder of International Quality Awards Ltd, the organisers of the Chefs Delight Awards introduced two new elements to the second edition of the competition, another awards programme run side-by-side complimenting the Chefs Delight culinary awards programme. This will be the Bar & Mixology Awards 2015. This time will customers use the Chefs Delight Mobile App on their smart phones providing their true opinion of their experiences and grade the various participating nominated restaurants and bars. Mansoor further emphasized that the programme was not only an awards programme but more importantly a quality enhancing programme to continually build on, enhance, improve, retain & maintain the ‘quality of experiences’ and ‘quality of service’ offered to Kenya’s local, regional and international visitors to the many acclaimed restaurants across the country.

In attendance was Ms. Anna Othoro from the Nairobi City County who endorsed the programme as well as confirmed its support and emphasizing the initiative to be in line with the county’s vision of seeing Nairobi become one of the top cosmopolitan cities in Africa. She said that the programme will see standards being raised from many of the restaurants and bars as they compete to provide excellent culinary experiences and service to their customers. She recognized some of the restaurants that have been in Nairobi for many years providing unique experience amongst them was the Carnivore Restaurant.

This year’s major sponsors include Alpha Fine Foods & Al’s Kitchen, Bidco, Daawat amongst others all of which were well represented at the launch by their top executives. The sponsors unveiled the programme together with Kenya Tourism Board and Nairobi City County.

The launch event was attended by over 500 invited guests, a number not seen before for this event and also brought together Nairobi’s 25 top restaurants and chef teams plus the capital’s top six cocktail lounges/bars and mixologists from major hotel chains and individual food and beverage establishments, showcasing their top signature dishes and cocktails.

The programme will run from October to January and will culminate into a gala awards ceremony awarding restaurants, cocktail lounges and their teams as voted by their own customer to be the best in their categories.
