Coastal Aviation announces change in leadership

COASTAL AVIATION BIDS GOOD BYE TO SHAFIUL SYED AND WELCOMES MAYNARD MKUMBWA AS NEW CEO

(Posted 03rd June 2021)

Dear Friends, Colleagues & Partners,

I hope this finds you well and surviving through these times. Crazy to even consider that we have lived more than a year through this era … and thankfully, still here to tell the tale! But that is a testament to the survival instincts of us as human beings and more specifically, us as unwavering patriots of our industry and sector!

At this time, I am writing to you to inform you that the time has come for me to move on from Coastal Travels Ltd and Tanzania. Whilst it has been an incredible experience over the last 3 years, it has been tough on me and my family, especially with all the difficulties of international travel during this global pandemic. Coronavirus has taught me to take nothing for granted and not to miss out on the things that really matter, such as family and friends.

The exciting news though is that Maynard Mkumbwa will be taking over as Managing Director and Accountable Manager for Coastal Travels. As a seasoned aviator/pilot and having spent almost 2 decades with the company, he is steeped in its corporate DNA, history, and evolution over the years. During my tenure, he held the role of Director of Flight Operations, deputizing for me in my absence and as a core member of the leadership team, planning the strategies and the continuation of the business. He is the logical choice for company continuity.

Maynard steps up to his new role of MD with effect from Tuesday 1 June. He can be reached directly on: –

I will continue to be in and around the company for the next 10 days or so, as I transition out, whilst packing up my life from Dar es Salaam.

As I sign off, I would like to thank you for your support of me and the company and trust that you will continue to offer that to Maynard. It has been extremely rewarding to reset Coastal’s safety standing and re-establish the footing of the business. Thank you for your camaraderie. Good luck to you and the industry, as you navigate out of this crisis and slowly, but steadily revert to the new normal.

Take good care, stay safe, kind regards,

Shafiul Syed
