Under the bonnet at Coastal, much of our investment and company drive is taking shape. We stand by our set of values, which is to put safety at the top of our agenda, the customer is our heart and pulse, whilst we need to operate as OneTeam, who collaborate and engage with agility.
Here are some of the highlights of our progress below: – |

1. Coastal’s Key Value – Safety
We have been working very hard on reinforcing our safety culture within Coastal and are seeing great improvements. We have made great progress on MCC which was launched December 1, 2018. MCC is Multi Crew Coordination, 2 crew members trained and assessed to work as a team in the cockpit to promote safety. Our crews are getting comfortable with working in this new paradigm.
We continue to strive for excellence. We now have much better safety reporting including snagging & more vigorous follow up processes, driven by the most senior managers of the business. We do actively engage with other operators and agencies to promote safety in our airspace, often leading those initiatives. |
| 2. Flight Operations
That was just the beginning! For our pilots, we now have much more rigorous training and line checks, complimented with their continuous evaluation and assessment. Our modus operandi includes random drug & alcohol testing, of our operations’ staff – which includes pilots, engineers and the ground staff at our airports and airstrips. |

| 3. Organisation Structure
We have also reissued our organisation structure, please see the chart. The yellow boxes are members of the Commercial Team who are there to serve you, namely: –

| 4. Network Updates
We have taken the feedback from many of our customers and are thus reinstating the Serengeti – Nairobi route (via Musoma for customs/immigration clearance). We do need your support on this route, and hope that the convenience of flying out of the Serengeti on a more direct route will be appreciated by those travelling on into Kenya and beyond.
With effect from 08 April 2019, we will be connecting our passengers from the Commercial Capital to the Republic Capital of Tanzania, Dar es Salaam to Dodoma. For our customers to maximise their working day, we will be introducing morning and evening outbound and returns, in both directions.
Just a quick reminder on the Ruaha flight. We have also started flights from Ruaha to Kilimanjaro, via Iringa. We hope this is a useful product to offer customers, connecting the South to the international gateway at Kilimanjaro, whilst also assisting with itineraries to optimise park fees, noting that Iringa is outside of that catchment.
And perhaps of great excitement, we will be introducing scheduled flights to and from Mozambique from mid June 2019, in partnership with one of our major agents. The flights will connect Dar with Vamizi Island, with onward connections to Pemba and intra-Mozambique travel based on demand. |
