Liberia Launches Nationwide Campaign to Vaccinate Adolescent Girls Against HPV

The Ministry of Health has announced a five-day nationwide campaign against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) for girls aged 9 to 18. Eligible girls will receive a single dose of the vaccine at their schools or via their communities. The vaccination will commence on 17-21 and will be rolled out in all fifteen counties.The Acting Program Manager of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Dr. Yuah Nemah, said the campaign aims to vaccinate over five hundred thousand girls within the five days. In Liberia, the fight against cervical cancer is critical. Agriculture Contributed 3.4% to Liberia’s Economic Growth in 2024

A recent report published by the World Bank says Liberia’s economy grew by 4.0 percent in 2024 with the agricultural sector accounting for 3.4 percent, a notable improvement from 1.4 percent in 2023.This overall growth was led by the rubber and rice sectors. According to the report, titled “From Stabilization to Inclusion – Pathways to Resilient Growth and Productive Jobs,” rubber production rose by nearly 18%  after a 2% decline in 2023, and rice output increased by 8.5%, reflecting better growth lauding conditions, an improved road network providing greater market access, and policy efforts to enhance local production, supported by favorable weather and rising global prices….Read more>>

African Development Bank Group Boosts Zambia’s Renewable Energy Drive with $14.54 Million Investment in Garneton North Solar Project

The Board of Directors of the African Development Bank has approved a $14.54 million financing package to support the Garneton North 20 megawatt solar project, in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province, catalysing the country’s renewable energy expansion, and addressing the energy deficit.When operational, the project will provide 82,000 people with clean, reliable electricity and eliminate 58,740 tons of CO2 emissions per annum.The approval, comprising $7.27 million from the African Development Bank’s own resources, and matching concessional financing from a Development Finance Institution, demonstrates a bold commitment to closing Zambia’s energy gap while advancing the Mission 300 goal of providing 300 million Africans with electricity access by 2030.
